REGULAR REPORTS OVER THE WEEKEND
- Much appreciated to get regular scores all weekend - Well Done Mike! (Al's Fastball)
Wyevale, ON
John Zieger's solo homerun in the top of 5th innning at 12:45am early Sunday morning propelled the Lake Simcoe Lightning to the Canada Day Classic Championship this weekend in Elmvale.
The Lightning were able to erase an early 3-0 lead for the Minesing Marsupials with patience and persistance, and a bit of timely hitting. Garrity was dominant after the 1st inning not allowing a runner past 1st base as he took his record to a perfect 4-0 for the weekend.
Minesing amassed a 3-1 record on the weekend, beating Wyevale, Orangeville, and Napanee on their way to the final.
Rain halted play for about 2 1/2 hours on Saturday morning, but could not keep up with the Tribe's world (?) renowned grounds crew led by Mark Lambie. A mere 65 minutes after the rain had stopped, the diamond which was a mucky mess, was ready to welcome back the tournament participants..
Doug Cundall gathered a crew of blues, that not only weathered Mother Nature's wrath, but displayed quality and consistency throughout the weekend, and in doing so left players and fans alike, both pleased and complimentary.
Oh behalf of the Wyevale Tribe, I would like to thank all participants (Players, Coaches, Umpires, Fans, etc) for their continued support of this annual event. It is an event that both ourselves and our community looks forward to each year, and we look forward to an even more successful 2011 tournament.
Best of luck the remainder of the season.
