Oklahoma City, OK - Florida reclaims the top spot in ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 Collegiate Poll

Just one week after falling two spots in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll, the Florida Gators (38-3, 12-3 SEC) have reclaimed the No. 1 spot following an undefeated week on the road, the Amateur Softball Association (ASA)/USA Softball announced today.  This move comes after last week’s top team, Michigan (29-4, 7-2 Big Ten), went 2-1 in a Big Ten road series at unranked Nebraska.  The Gators return to the top after receiving eight-of-20 first-place votes, while Michigan received three votes, Auburn (37-4, 9-3 SEC) received five votes, Alabama (35-7, 8-4 SEC) received three and Louisiana-Lafayette (32-3, 13-1 Sun Belt) received the final one first-place vote.

Florida went 4-0 on the road this week, beginning with a standalone game against UCF before a three-game Southeastern Conference (SEC) series at Ole Miss. In the first game of the week, Florida's pitching staff issued just three hits in a 3-1 win. The Gators would go on to sweep Ole Miss after posting 8-0, 6-1 and 4-2 wins against the Rebels.

Michigan and Auburn come in tied at No. 2 this week. Michigan dropped game one of the Big Ten Conference series, 1-0, before rebounding with 4-1 and 8-6 wins to walk away with the series victory. Auburn, who posted a flawless 4-0 performance for the week, picked up a mid-week 8-1 win over Troy before sweeping an out-of-conference series against Longwood.

No. 4 Alabama maintains their spot in the poll from last week as the Crimson Tide collected four wins, including two via run-rule. Louisiana-Lafayette closes out the Top 5 after capturing a series sweep of Georgia State at home.

Rounding out the Top 10: No. 6 Oregon (32-6, 10-2 Pac-12) swept in-state rival Oregon State while picking up a double-header against Portland State; No. 7 James Madison (34-3, 9-0 CAA) dropped a 2-1 decision to Virginia Tech to start the week before rebounding to pick up four wins; No. 8 Florida State (31-4, 10-1 ACC) went undefeated as the Seminoles shutout Jacksonville while sweeping NC State; No. 9 Oklahoma (30-7, 6-1 Big 12) joins the Top 10 for the first time since Week 1 after sweeping then-No. 18 Baylor (32-10, 5-3 Big 12); No. 10 Georgia (34-8, 8-4 SEC) rejoins the Top 10 after sweeping then-No. 14 Missouri (26-10, 5-7 SEC).

The Top 25 remains unchanged this week as no new teams enter the poll.

The ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll is voted on by coaching representatives of 10 Division I Conferences in the 15 ASA/USA Softball Regions as well as members of the National and Local media who consistently cover Division I Softball across the country.
