(Ottawa) – Softball Canada in association with its member provincial and territorial associations will be hosting provincial ID camps for the selection of the Junior Men's National Team.
The series of ID camps are open to male softball or baseball players age 19 or under prior to December 31st, 2008 (born in 1989 or later). The camps, which are designed to evaluate and appraise talent in the preparation for the 2008 Junior Men's World Championships, will be held in British Columbia (July 1st – Tentative), Alberta (Tentative for June), Saskatchewan (July 29th and 30th – Includes Manitoba), Quebec (June 9th), Nova Scotia (July 9th – Includes New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island) and Newfoundland (to be determined).
All men born between the years of 1989 and 1991 are encouraged to participate in these camps. Candidates who showcase exemplary skills, talent, focus and energy will be invited to participate in a final selection camp in 2007 to be considered to participate in the 2008 Junior Men's World Championships representing Canada.
Leading the camps and the evaluation process will be the Junior National Team coaching staff with the assistance of local area coaches. The ID camps will focus on identifying speed, throwing and catching ability, hitting and fielding skills, base running and general fitness testing.
