For 2007, the TFL has added a set of 'Pitcher Developmental' games to it's schedule. The following format was created with input from all 5 league teams to give potential pitchers the opportunity to get some game experience with the hope of finding the next generation of pitchers to continue the league.
I think almost every team has a few guys who like to pitch before the games, and we wanted to give them a chance to get them on the mound and gain some experience without worrying about affecting the league standings.
- Each team will play the other teams in the league once (4 total Developmental games).
- Played as part of a scheduled DH
- 1:15 time limit
- Results do not count in league standings
- Pitchers can be of any age, but must be someone who is interested in being a pitcher as part of their softball career
- Open subsitution on defense
- 3 outs or 9 batters per half-inning
Prior to the season, each team identified at least 2 players per team who would pitch in these games. Last night, the first Pitcher Development game was held (before the rains came). Craig Histed, Aaron Truemner, and Al Ellison each pitched an inning for the Munger Vols, and Kyle Engle pitched 2 innings for the Auburn Buzz.
As results are posted from our league, we'll also update the progress/participation in these games.
