ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell University softball program has added pitching coach Jody Hennigar to its staff, announced Julie Farlow, the Jan Rock Zubrow '77 Head Coach of Softball. Hennigar brings more than four decades of playing and coaching experience to the Big Red program. 

"We are very excited to be here at Cornell University and I want to thank coach Farlow and coach Tara Tembey for this amazing opportunity," Hennigar said. "I would also like to thank the athletic director Nicki Moore and all of the Athletic Administration. Being a part of a great tradition and family is very special to me, and I'm honored to join a great staff." 

Hennigar has been a collegiate pitching coach for the last six seasons, most recently at the University at Buffalo (2018-23). He spent the 2017 season at Jacksonville University, where his pitchers posted a combined 2.80 earned-run average with 176 strikeouts. His top pitcher, Alyssa Bilodeau, went 16-13 with a 2.32 ERA and 115 strikeouts over 190 innings that season. 

Hennigar's first coaching job came as an assistant for New Zealand's U18 Boys National Team in 1985. He later spent six seasons as the head coach of Florida Ultimate Gold and five as the head coach of the U14 Tampa Mustangs. 

As a player, Hennigar won several medals and honors as a member of the Canadian National men's fastpitch team from 1989 to 2002. He earned All-Canadian team honors six times and the Most Valuable Player and Most Valuable Pitcher awards twice each. 

Hennigar also played in 17 National Fastpitch Championships for the Amateur Softball Association, earning ASA all-american honors six times and winning the ASA Most Valuable Pitcher award twice.

The decorated Hennigar has been inducted into the Canadian Softball Hall of Fame (2010), the Nova Scotia Softball Hall of Fame (2010), the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame (2010), the International Softball Congress Hall of Fame (2010) and the Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame (2011). 

Hennigar attended Ferris State University from 1894-85 and Kirkwood Community College (Iowa) from 1987-88.
