The passing of a softball Legend Roberto Florencia Sr.
September 3, 2008
ISF Hall of Famer(1989) ROBERTO FLORENCIA Sr. -passed away this past weekend, I really don't know how but I received an email today to inform me of his passing. I felt it very important to pass this along to the softball world. Tito Sr. was a Ambassador for Fastpitch softball in Mexico, as a player and as a coach. As a kid in the 70"s I remember him bringing in teams from Mexico City to compete in Tournaments here in Texas, Tito also pitched for the Baytown Hawks and lead them to numerous championships. He was the best that Mexico had to offer and he was the one of the best to ever pitch in the state of Texas. I remember one of Titos proudest moments was when he stood on the mound at Memorial #1 at the Rusk Athletic Clubs Latin American Tournament and Little Tito came out of the dugout and walked to the mound to change places with his father and follow in his footsteps (and that he did Tito Florencia Jr. appeared in numerous ISC tournaments ).
(ISF Bio) For 30 years Roberto Florencia was an active player (pitcher). He Retired as a player following the 1984 World Championship, his fifth such appearance, winning a silver and a bronze medal along the way. He registered 105 strikeouts and a 1.48 ERA in 127 2/3 innings pitched in those competitions. Also played in four Central American-Caribbean Championships.
Please join me in passing along our condolences to the Florencia Family and let them know they are in our prayers. God Bless
(he was buried yesterday Sept. 02 2008 in Tampico Mexico)
