The Minesing Monarchs tied up the SRFL finals at one game apiece after a tight 3-2 victory over the visiting Vasey Countrymen.
Vasey started the scoring in the top of the second inning. ToddWeatherell who had advanced to second via a single and a stolen base, wasbrought home by a Jody King bloop single.
Minesing would then tie up the game after Jamie Grant ledoff the bottom of the second inning with a triple to the left center gap andwas brought home by a Greg McLean sac fly. Grant managed to dodge the tagat home plate and put Minesing on the board.
Both teams were unable to score in the third and fourthinnings, but Minesing took the lead in the 5th after Rob McLeansingled, advanced to second on a pass ball, moved to third on a Matt McLearnground out, and was plated by a Paul Priest sac fly.
Vasey then answered in the top of the 6th inningwith two out, Todd Weatherell reached on an infield hit, stole second andscored Vasey’s second run of the game after Steve Eakley doubled over thecenterfielders head.
Vasey brought in pitcher Brad Robinson in the bottom of the 6th and with twoout, Minesing batter Paul Priest doubled and was then cashed in by the nextbatter Jamie Grant, who stung a pitch just inside the third baseline to drivein the game winning run.
Minesing pitcher Kurt Glover had an outstanding game on themound as he kept the Countrymen batters off balance all night with his varietyof off-speed pitches.
