FourCanadian Umpires selected for ISF XII Men’s World Championship
(Ottawa,ON) – Softball Canada is pleased to announce that four of its umpires have been selected to officiate at the ISF XII Men’s World Championship, which will takeplace in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan from July 17-26, 2009. Lou Davis (Truro, NS),Frank Omoe (Edmonton, AB), Bob Henning (Surrey, BC) and Gary Skjerven (Balcarres, SK) will represent their country at the event. Lou Davis is currently Softball Nova Scotia’s Umpire in Chief (UIC) and obtained his Softball Canada Level V Certification in 2002, followed by his ISFcertification the following year in 2003. He has 23 years of experience as an umpire and has officiated in six Canadian Championships (1996, 1998, 1999,2001, 2002, 2004) while serving as Deputy Umpire in Chief on two other occasions (2006 and 2008). Internationally, he officiated at the 2005 ISF VII Junior Men’s World Championship in Summerside, PEI.
Frank Omoe obtained his ISF Certification in 2000, and has umpired five Canadian Championships and numerous tournaments in Saskatchewan and throughout the United States. He has also served as Umpire in Chief at the 2004 Canadian Junior Women Championship. This will be his second international event, as he also officiated at the 2002 ISF X Women’s World Championship.
Bob Henning has a wealth of officiating experience and obtained his Level V Certification in 1988. At the national level, he officiated in six Canadian Championships and has served as Umpire in Chief or Deputy Umpire in Chief ofvarious other events. His international experience includes the 1993 IV ISFJunior Men’s World Championship as well as various other tournaments.
Gary Skjerven has 23 years of experience as an umpire and received his Softball Canada Level V Certification in 2002, followed by his ISF Certification in 2003. Gary has officiated in four Canadian Championships and was an Umpire in Chief or Deputy Umpire in chief on two other occasions. His international experience includes de 2005 ISF VII Junior Men’s World Championship and the 2007 Universiade in Bangkok, Thailand.
