GARSON HOUNDS GO 2-0
After a full week off due to inclimate weather and poor feild conditions , the Rick McDonald Memorial Fastball League returned to action on Thursday night at the Lorn Brady Park in Garson.
In the opener , the Hounds(now 2-0) continued their offensive onslaught with a 12-5 victory over last place Sudbury Athletics(0-2) . The Garson boys scored 7 runs in the opening two frames then cruised the rest of the way with the Athletics scoring three of their runs in the fourth inning. Gary Lamothe (2-0) went all the way for the Hounds scattering 14 hits and striking out two opposition batters. Ed Brennan (0-1) started for the Athletics and gave way to Bruce MacDonald in the fourth inning.Both Athletics pitchers gave up 21 hits combined and fanned 8 Hounds batters.Corey Farmer (2008 batting champion) led all hitters with a 4 for 6 performance (two doubles and a triple) with teamate Todd Parsons hitting 2 for 3 (both two run homers) while Eric Ace hit 2 for 3 (two run homer) in a losing cause for the Athletics.
In the nightcap , the newest member of the league for 2009 ,the Parry Island Hawks (1-0) sueeked out a 8-6 victory over the Pickerel River Cardinals (1-1) .. Most of the runs came in the first two frames as both teams scored 5 runs each and then played some tight defense until the very late innings when the Hawks took advantage of some costly errors by the Cardinals and some timely hitting to pick up the victory. Matty Tobobundung(1-0) went all the way for the Hawks giving up 8 hits issuing 5 base on balls and striking out 7 Cardinals ..Jonathan Contin (1-1) went the distance for the Cardinals giving up 14 hits and striking out 4 Hawks. Craig Brown ( home run ),Matt Tobobundung(home run) and Walter Tobobundung all hit 3 for 4 for the Hawks while Alex Ashawasagai hit 2 for 4 in a losing cause for the Cardinals.
Play resumes this coming Monday June the 8th at the Rick McDonald memorial Park in Azilda . In the opener lastt year's league champions the Dog House North Stars(0-1) will be looking for their first win of the young season when they take on the Parry Island Hawks(1-0) while in the nightcap the 1-1 Pickerel River Cardinals will face the first place undefeated Garson Hounds(2-0) ..
Don't forget the first fastball tournament of the season coming up next Friday ,saturday and Sunday June 12th to 14th in Azilda at the Rick McDonald Memorial Park. As of Saturday June the 6th there are 7 participants for the tournament .
