The Thomson Area Merchants split a pair of games at the Jack Grafmeier Memorial Tournament in a cold and wet Kimberly, WI. One of the scheduled games was rained out on Saturday night.
The Merchants opened play on Saturday afternoon against the Aspen Interiors, currently ranked #4 in the World with Aspen getting a come from behind 7-6 victory. Andrew Putnam got the start and gave up 6 runs in 4 innings on only 4 hits. The Merchants pounded out 9 hits and 6 runs led by Scott Glazier, BJ Gulick, and Rob Bennett with 2 hits apiece. Nick Shailes tied the game for Aspen in the top of the 4th with a two run homer and Sean O'Brien doubled in the winning run off Rob Schweyer in the top of the 7th after a Thomson error.
On Sunday, the merchants collected 14 hits to beat The Bar on the Avenue 8-1. Rob Schweyer pitched the first 4 innings for the Merchants with 13 strikeouts while giving up 1 hit. Andrew Putnam pitched 2 innings giving up 1 hit and 1 run. Offensively, the Merchants got 3 hits from Cody and Gulick. Glazier and Gulick each had triples.
