Hawks put an end to Athletics four game winning streak

Two of the league teams who participated in this past weekend's Hunstville Men's Fastball Tournament were back in action Monday night at the Rick McDonald Memorial Park in Azilda. In the opener the Garson Hounds and the Pickerel River Cardinals played to a 7 all draw and their position in the standings remain unchanged . Jonathan Contin started for the Cardinals but gave way to Alex Ashawasagai in the bottom of the fourth frame. Gary Lamothe went the distance for the Hounds.Veteran Chuck Jacobs led the way for the Hounds hitting 2 for 4 (double,two run homer and three runs batted in) with teammate Jon Treen also hitting 2 for 4(triple) while Ed "Shaq" Panamick Jr (two doubles) and Kurt Hambly (triple) both hit 2 for 4 in the Cardinals favor.
In the nightcap , the Athletics four game unbeaten streak came to an end as the first place Parry Island Hawks picked up their 8th victory of the season with a 8 to 1 triumph. The game was called after five innings due to the seven run differential mercy rule. John Aisnly started and was tagged with the loss with Pat Brennan Sr taking over in the top of the fourth frame. Al Guenette of the Hawks went the distance to pick up his third straight victory and lower his league leading earn run average to 1,47 per game. Jason Green of Parry Island led all players with a perfect 3 for 3 performance at bat which included a triple and a two run shot to deep centre field.Mike Martin hit 2 for 2 in a losing cause for the Athletics.
Play resumes in the league on Thursday night in Garson at the Lorne Brady Memorial Park . In the opener at 7 PM , the Dog House North Stars face the Pickerel River Cardinals and that will be followed by the nightcap under the lights at 9 PM when the Garson Hiunds do battle with the first place Parry Island Hawks.
TOPPERS EDGES AUTOBUFF USED CARS
In girls softball/fastpitch midget division action tonight in Azilda at field # 2 the Toppers squad edged the AutoBuff Used Cars gals 11 to 9. Maxime Mayotte was the winning pitcher in relief while Melanie Brunet also in relief was tagged with the loss. Danielle Marie 2 for 3 and Erica Sorenson 2 for 4 led the AutoBuff gilrs while Tracy Smith had a perfect night at the dish for Toppers squad going 3 for 3 (double,triple and four runs batted in). Play resumes on three fronts Tuedday night : first in squirts at Selkirk the SPJ meet the Silkscreeners; at Downe in bantam action Hite Services face Northern Sports Photography and finally at Twin Forks in midget play the Bristol Machine will battle AutoBuff Used Cars..
