The third annual Northwest Rural Cup Fastball Challenge will be staged in Owen Sound over the holiday weekend.
Play starts tonight at 7 pm with all 3 diamonds at Duncan McLellan Park being used.
The tournament is in essence a " Champion of Champions " event.
The respective league champions from four leagues in our area, along with several top contenders will compete in the event to determine a Grand Champion of Fastball for the Region.
Champions & teams from the Highland Hills View Men's Fastball league, the Grey-Bruce Peninsula Men's Fastball League, the Chesley Town League and the Owen Sound Men's Fastball League will be competing.
The format is a round robin which will lead teams to a series of games for the Gold Medal and the Bronze Medals on Sunday.
Owen Sound, being a central location to the 4 leagues, was a natural choice to host the Northwest Rural Cup.
However, Tournament Organizer Brett Miller concedes that if a neighbouring community could host the event and use it as a fundraiser for a fastball oriented project, consideration of shifting the event from year to year would be given.
