TWO CLOSE GAMES ON THURSDAY NIGHT
The Garson Hounds had to score a key winning run in the bottom of the seventh frame on Thursday night at the Lorne Brady Memorial Park in Garson to earn their fourth victory of the season . After taking a 6-1 lead late into the fifth frame , the Whitefish Lake Steelers came back to tie the affair at 6 before winning pitcher Gary Lamothe hit a single in the bottom of the final inning to bring in the winning run. Lamothe went the distance for second place Hounds giving up 9 hits , striking out 3 Steelers and issuing no base on balls . Al Guenette also pitched the entire game for the Steelers , giving up 11 hits , fanning 2 Hounds and not issuing any walks .Corey Farmer led the way for the winners going 2 for 4 (triple , one run scored , 2 runs batted in ) ..Teammate Todd Parsons hit his 2nd home run of the season .Justin Nootchtai went a perfect 3 for 3 (double , three runs scored ) in a losing cause for the Steelers.
In the nightcap , in a tightly fought contest , it ended in a 3-3 draw . Jonathan Contin went the distance for the Pickerel River Cardinals giving up but four hits , striking out 8 opponents and issuing four base on balls . For the Hawks of Parry Island , pitchers Matt Tobobundung and Percy Tobobundung combined to give up 9 hits , fan 8 Cardinals and issue one base on balls. Ed Brennan led the way for the Cardinals going 2 for 3 (2 runs batted in ) while Percy Tobobundung hit 1 for 3 (run scored) for the Hawks.
Since we had a few cancellations because of rain or other unforeseen reasons the next four Mondays will see doubleheaders at the Rick McDonald Memorial Park in Azilda -June 28th ,July 5th,12th and 19th .
