The Alvinston Indians (Alvinston, Ontario) avenged an earlier loss against the Lightning (Marshall, MI) to claim the championship of the 9th Annual Pete Schwab Memorial Fastpitch Tournament. This is the 3rd year in a row that these two teams have met in the finals of the event and, like the previous two years, the Indians are able to come up with a 1-run victory. Alvinston reached the finals by beating the Duncan Outlaws (Elkhart, IN) 8-5 in the quarterfinals with 5 runs in the 6th inning. Next, they needed 3 runs in the top of the 7th to beat Mickies Sleds (Midland, MI) in the semifinals, 3-0. Finally, they scored 2-runs in the top of the 6th to claim a 4-3 win against the Lightning. The Lightning made it to the finals by beating Stockpack (Ashland, OH) 2-0 in the other semi-final game.
The MVP Player for the tournament was Chris Rivard (Lightning). The MVP Pitching Staff for the tournament was from Alvinston (Ryan Swift, Brad Young, and Shaun Winship). Sean Kelly from the Lightning also had a fine tournament pitching, once again, by throwing 3 shut-outs prior to giving up 3 runs in the championship game loss.
Thank you to all the players, coaches, families, and fans who attended the event. Additionally, we would like to send our appreciation to UIC Mike Clark and one of the best umpire crews possible. Their names are listed below:
