FASTBALL RETURNS IN GREATER SUDBURY FOR A 60th SEASON
I got involved as a fan way back at the tender age of 10 in 1957 walking from the Flour Mill all the way to Queens Athletic Field to watch some great fastball .. Later in my late teens and early twenties I was a scorekeeper . The game has changed somewhat through the years where instead of four or five leagues it has become a singular league . This year under the banner of Rick McDonald Memorial Fastball League , it is celebrating its 20th anniversary . For this season the league will be comprised of four teams : the Sudbury North Stars (defending champions of 2010) , Garson Hounds under the leadership of Brian Welsh this year , the Pickerel River Cardinals under the direction of Pat Brennan and Ed Panamick and finally the Whitefish Lake First Nation Falcons who will be lead by Andy Nootchtai . Last year’s finalist the Parry Island Hawks have decided to opt out for this season but may return at a later date . The scheduler will get underway on Wednesday May 25th out of Whitefish . There will be doubleheaders played in Whitefish on Wednesdays , Garson (Brady field) on Thursdays and the Rick McDonald Memorial Complex in Azilda on Mondays . We hope our regular fans and new ones will come during the week and enjoy some fine fastball . The full schedule will be out later this week and I will make it available to you .The league’s web site RICK McDonald MEMEMORIAL FASTBALL which has been dormant during the Winter season , will be activated the day day following the fist scheduled game .
Yours in fastball ,
