It sure looks like a great weekend ahead of us at the Tavistock Ball
Parks. A nice crowd gathered for opening night at Queen's Park in
Tavistock for the opening games of the Cephas Roth Memorial Fastpitch
tournament.
Clear blue skies, green outfield, beautiful refurbished ball park, in
one of the nicest towns in south western Ontario, parked right on the
edge of Waterloo, Oxford and Perth counties, just south of hwy 7 between
Kitchener and Stratford.
The KW Cubs and Shakespeare Falcons opened this years tournament with
a great ball game. Scott Wagar of the Cubs and Fred Follings went the
distance, with Folling of the Falcons picking up the 1 - 0 win over
South Perth rival KW Cubs.
The Cubs loaded the bases in the first inning, Bob Gillow, Grant
Baechler, and Allan Phibbs on base with one out....and Follings pitched
himself out of trouble with 2 K's, Travis Hofstetter and Scott Wagar....
Follings alowed two hits to the Cubs in the first and shut them down
with 6 hitless innings.
Jamie Boyd, batting at a 350 pace in South Perth League play led off
the 2nd inning for Shakespeare with a triple. Falcon catcher hit to
short with a force to first allowing Boyd to score.
Jodie Schnarr had a great catch in left for the Falcons

Tavistock up against the Elmira Expos, of the South Perth League,
operating north of Tavistock...
The Expos brought power to the plate tonight and employed thier shut
down defence to put one in the win column.
Expo Kevin Gutscher had a 2 RBI triple in the 3rd to score Tim Freeman
and Casey Halstead. Freeman was walked, Halstead singled, Mark Gutscher
