From Dave Blackburn on Sunday, February 12, 2012
It has been 10 days since I had my right leg amputated below the knee. I am recovering at the Fountain View Rehab Center near Hollywood. The address is 5310 Fountain Avenue, LA 90029. I am in room 43 Bed "B". My right leg that pushed off the pitching rubber over a couple of million times is no more. If healing continues to go well, I should be fitted for a prosthetic leg around the beginning of May or so. The Doctors are happy with the results of surgery and my current healing trajectory.
Good Morning-
Wasn't sure if you heard but they amputated Dave's infected leg from the knee down yesterday afternoon. Surgery was a success and Dave is resting at Kaiser off of Venice.
His spirits are remarkably high, which isn't surprising, and plans on walking with the use of prosthetic leg. No timetable as of yet but Dave has his sites on the 19th Maccabi Games in Israel where it is our hope he will walk with Team USA into the stadium for Opening Ceremonies.
Thanks for passing news along.

On additional note: Those who know him can appreciate his positive
outlook.. Dave says he hopes, that since they amputated his right leg,
to have a spring loaded mechanism put in the prosthetic, so he'll be
able to hop further off the mound and deliver a bionic riseball.
(Ha!). Cheers, Kenny
