Tribe & Vasey...To Be Continued
With only a couple of weeks left in the regular season, games seem to have more meaning now in the SRFL. Monday night pitted the Tribe against their rival from Vasey, in a battle for 2nd place in the SRFL standings. In the end nothing was decided as both teams fought hard an earned a 4-4 tie.
The Countrymen opened the scoring in the first when Tribe starter Jason Giffen showed some rust coming off his stint on the Honeymoon List, and walked in the first run of the game. The Tribe answered back in the bottom of the inning when Kyle Lapham, after stealing 2nd, was brought home by an RBI single by Mike Kelly. The Countrymen again took the lead when they scored 2 runs in the 2nd inning to open up a 3-1 lead. In the 3rd inning the Tribe tallied 3 to take the lead on RBI's by Kevin Peterson, Dave Drinkill, and a Vasey error. From there the defense tightened up and the pitchers settled in, and the Tribe took a 4-3 lead into the 7th, where with 2 outs, veteran Doug Dutton slapped a single that scored Brad Robinson from second, and knotted the score at 4. In the bottom of the 7th Brad Robinson came on in relief of starter Jason Phillips and clutched up to strand the potential winning run at 2nd base.
In other SRFL news, the Minesing Masters participated in the Ontario Masters Championship last weekend, and after a slow start they came back to finish in 4th spot just outside the medals. Congratualations to them for a job well done.
