Durham College fastball back to their winning ways
OCAA Women’s Fastball: Durham defeated Conestoga 6-0
KITCHENER, Ont. – After allowing 17 runs in their first loss in 29 OCAA games, the Durham College women’s fastball team had a bounce back game on Sunday as they shutout the Conestoga Condors by a score of 6-0.
Lydia Kalbfleisch allowed the Durham pitching staff to take a rest as she went the distance allowing only two Condor hits. The freshman from Moorefield, Ont. has three wins this season.
Melissa Semeniuk continued to have a hot-stick as she went 3-for-4 with two singles and a double. Semeniuk is hitting .555 this season and is leading the OCAA in runs scored. Four other Lords had a multi-hit game as Kalbfleisch, Janna Hagan, Melissa Rodgers and Kayla Worotniak had two hits apiece in the win.
Durham got off to a great start with three runs in the top of the first inning, while adding one run in the second and two in the third.
The Lords are 6-1 this season having outscored their opponents 73-37. This was Durham’s first shutout in conference action this year.
The two teams will meet up again this week in Oshawa on Wednesday, October 3 for a doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m.
After their doubleheader, Durham will head to Regina, SK for the Canadian Collegiate Softball Association (CCSA) National Championship. Durham has won back-to-back bronze medals at nationals.
