National silver medalists return to action with a win
OCAA Women's Fastball: Durham defeated Seneca 7-5
NORTH YORK, Ont. – Less than 24 hours after winning the national silver medal in Regina, the Durham College women's fastball returned to the field as they played a road game against Seneca College. Although it took the Lords a couple of innings to get things going, Durham would end up with a 7-5 victory over the Sting.
"It was a good win for us with having played five games at Nationals this past weekend," said head coach Jim Nemish. "I give the players full credit for their efforts in being able to dig down and pull out the victory."
Lydia Kalbfleisch picked up the win for Durham, allowing five runs and recording five strikeouts. It was the freshman's fourth conference win of the season.
Durham infielder Melissa Semeniuk was 4-for-4 with a triple, double, and two singles. The Ajax, Ont. native is second in OCAA hitting with a .564 average. Jessica Pike also had a multi-hit game as she had two singles and an RBI.
Durham has won four straight conference games and is sporting a 9-1 record.
The Lords will take on Mohawk College in Oshawa on Thursday night. First pitch for the single game will be at 6:30 p.m.
