The Aussie Colts went into today’s first playoff game undefeated. However, it was the strong Japanese team that took opportunities at the right moment which led them to overcome the Aussie Colts outfit. After a 5 run 3rd innings, Japan defeated Australia 7-3 to send the Aussie Colts into the elimination bracket.
Â
Aussie Colts got off to a great start, scoring in the first innings courtesy of a Marshall Kronk double, then a pass ball and then a mental error by the Japanese defence that was recorded as a single to the pitcher by Aaron Whitefield.Â
Â
The Japanese team struck back in the bottom of the 3rd and 4th, scoring 6 of their 7 runs in those 2 innings with a good discipline of speed, power and errors by the Aussie Colts. In a never say die attitude, the Aussie Colts came back in the 5th and 6th innings. The Aussie Colts loaded the bases in the 7th innings, however failed to score after some good Japanese pitching.
Â
Marshall Kronk, Nathan Dickinson and Patrick Schipp pitched for the Aussie Colts, combining for 10 strikeouts and 9 hits. Aussie Colts hits came from Josh Wagner (triple/single), Kronk (double), Nick O'Shea (2 singles), Jesse Taws, Aaron Whitefield and Sam Kassianou (singles).
Â
Head Coach, Gary Butler will want the boys to learn from this game and quickly move on from the loss today. Â It is critical that they do this as they face elimination tomorrow against New Zealand Junior Black Sox. Softball fans will remember that memorable match between the 2 teams during the rounds.Â
Â
One thing for sure – the Aussie Colts will be ready to battle tomorrow.
Â
GO COLTS!!!!!
