OASA Eliminations PeeWee
July 7, 2013
Cobourg, ON
.........today marked a historic page in the OASA and ORSA annuals..........Glencoe PeeWee boys fastball team won the OASA Elims held in Cobourg.....the team won an ORSA qualifying tournament in June and became the ORSA entry into the tournament....Saturday saw the boys knock off New Hamburg in the opener and then nip Kitchener/Waterloo in extra innings to go 2-0......a late afternoon tilt with Tavistock turned out to be a barn burner as Glencoe trailed 7-1 but fought back to force extra innings where they scored 6 times to win 17-14....lots of runs for fastball but the excitement level was high in the park......that win put them into Sundays game where they faced Napanee, the only other unbeaten team.....the Glencoe bats were booming as they came away with a 13-5 victory and more importantly earn a rest while the other teams beat each other up.......Chepstow beat Caledonia in the morning and then took care of Napanee, only to face the rested Glencoe squad in the final......Glencoe prevailed and that's where history was made.....according to Carl Littlejohns, the long time ORSA Secretary, no ORSA team has won the OASA Elims.....two or three have been runner-up but Glencoe is the first team to do this.......hats off to Coach Mike Black, his assistants and all the young men on the team ...in winning they have earned a berth in the Canadian Championships in either Fredericton, New Brunswick or Prince Albert, Saskatchewan........I believe the winner gets choice of which venue to go.......continued success
