Lake Simcoe Lightning at The Gil

This past weekend the Lake Simcoe Lightning of the Oshawa City and District Fastball League came away as Champions of The Gil Read Memorial Fastpitch Tournament in Carp, Ontario with a record of 5 wins and a tie.

The team had 7 players above a .353 batting average with Aaron Trude and Greg Garrity leading the offence  with 4 and 3 home runs and 10 and 7 hits respectively.
Garrity also drew 5 walks and John Kemp had 4 bb also.

Trude's 10 hits led his team and Campbell Ngarimu with 8, Garrity with 7 and Ryan Swift, Todd Hamblin and Tyler Whynot with 6 each  rounded out the team's top batters.

Casey Toews and Jordan Bilodeau provided excellent middle infield play and made several exceptional catches to rob batters of hits. Mr. Experience, John Kemp, our catcher, led the defence.

The pitching staff of Brad Worsley, Greg Garrity and Ryan Swift over 37 innings, allowed 15 runs (13 earned), on 32 hits , 49 strikeouts and 12 base on balls. Pitching by committee was the agenda for the weekend.

The Lghtning would like to thank the Read family and their group of volunteers, the umpires and fans for a very well run tournament. May those in need benefit from this very worthy cause.
