Callander Labour Day Weekend Masters Tournament
September 5, 2013
Callandar, ON
When the North Bay Senior Tournament folded this year after almost 30 years, Dwight Beer decided something had to be done to keep this popular event alive in Northern Ontario, and so he took it upon himself to run the same tournament out of the small burg of Callander, about 10 kms. south of North Bay. Doing almost all of the work himself he managed to attract 18 teams with one pulling out 2 days before it began. Dwight and his volunteers worked hard all weekend keeping the diamonds in shape and serving up very reasonably priced food and beer. In my opinion the tournament was a huge success and Dwight deserves a huge pat on the back. The inaugaural winners of this tournament were Sudbury Relics winning the "AA" championship going undefeated all weekend and Pickering winning the "A" championship compiling a 4-1 record.  Congratulations to my boys from Pickering on a great weekend both on and off the diamond.Â
