Â
The Twin Cities of Kitchener-Waterloo Ontario have hosted multiple national and international fastball events, relying on a strong entourage of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers.
Â
Over the years, the passage of time has taken its toll with the untimely passing of eight highly valued volunteers in the local fastball community.
Â
Bernie Daly, Doug Davies, Peter Hallman, Paul Hutcheson, John MacTavish, Laverne Reichert, Sue Sherry and Donna Weber contributed significantly of their time, skills and resources to ensure that fastball events in Kitchener-Waterloo were hosted in the finest possible fashion. Their legacies for volunteering are inspirational, and their participation has been and will continue to be missed.Â
Â
Kitchener Fastball Promotions, under the leadership of Duncan Matheson, is organizing the “Angels in the Outfield†project to recognize, in perpetuity, the contributions of these exceptional volunteers.
Â
A memorial tribute stone recognizing the “Angels†is utilizing the sculpting skills of Robert Robinson (www.esdontario.ca) to create a memorial fastball tribute rock that will be permanently located in Peter Hallman Ball Yard.
Â
The unveiling is scheduled for Friday August 8, the evening prior to the opening of the 68th annual ISC International Softball Congress world championship tournament in Kitchener.
Â
With an approved budget of $25,000 to acquire, create, sculpt and install the stone and landscape the area, the organizing committee is encouraging the softball community to consider making donations to the project. At present, about 30% of the goal has been confirmed.
