THE SUDBURY AQUATECH NORTH STARS CLINCH THE COMMISSIONER’S CUP

                               The Sudbury Aquatech North Stars clinch the Commissioner’s Cup by virtue of a double win in Garson at the Lorne Brady Memorial Park in Garson on Thursday night.
                                In the opener , the   North Stars took on the 3rd place Panthers .. Carter Joncas ( 8-1) the league’s leading pitcher was at his best giving but 4 runs ( 3 earned ) on 6 hits , 6 strike outs and not a single walk issued .. Gary Lamothe (4-5) started for the Panthers and lasted 5 innings before giving up to Brad Matheson due to an injury . Both pitchers combined to give up 7 runs on 11 hits while fanning 5 batters and not issuing a walk . Ben Bast ( trlp , 2 RBI’s) and Brett Demers ( 2 runs , dbl ,trpl ,RBI ) both went 2 for 2 for the winners while Rylan Stolar ( run , solo HR , RBI) 2 for 3 and Brad Matheson (2 runs , 3 run homer , 3 RBI’S) 2 for 4 hit well at the dish in a losing cause for the Panthers .
                                In the nightcap , the Commissioner’s Cup winners took on the Dog House . Somewhat tired but still in a groove , Joncas started once more for the North Stars picking up his 8th win of the season as he cruised through the first six frames before giving up to Jesse St Cyr (0-0) due to fatigue in the final inning .. Carter Joncas faced 24 players in this outing not giving up a single run on 4 hits , 3 strike outs and not a single walk issued . St Cyr who finished up the last frame did not give up a single run or hit while issuing 2 walks . Johnatin Contin ( 0-2) went the distance for the Dog House giving up 7 runs ( 2 unearned) on 11 hits fanning 8 batters and issuing 2 walks .. Chad St Cyr ( 3 runs , 2 run homer ,2 RBI’S) and Carter Joncas both lead the winners with a 2 for 3 performance with teammate Lyle Baibomcawai chipping in with a 3 run homer to help the cause .Brady Loach hit 2 for 3 and had a fine defensive game at short stop in a losing cause for the Dog House ..
                                 There are only 6 remaining games in the regular season as play resumes at the Rick McDonald Memorial Sports Complex on Monday July 21st in Azilda . In the opener , once more a doubleheader for the North Stars they will tangle with the Panthers at 7 pm and in the nightcap at 9 pm they face the Hounds ..
                                  The final team and individual stats will be handed out to you on the first day of the first round of the double round robin playoffs which are scheduled to tentively start on Thursday July 31st in Garson at the Lorne Brady Memorial Park ..

  TOURNAMENT INFORMATION

                                  1. The Brad Rienguette tournament coming up in 8 days with the deadline for entry set at a delayed Tuesday July the 22nd (my 42nd wedding anniversary) now stands at 7 committed teams and awaiting an answer from 3 perspective interested teams . We will more likely finish with 8 full entries which will give us 2 divisions of 4 with 3 playoff games for a total of 15 games in two days .Should we stay at 7 it will be one division of 7 with each participating teams playing 3 random games .Then they would be seeded 1 to 7 with the top 4 advancing to the playoffs ..
                                   2. The All Ontario Native Fastball Tournament this year being played in Perry Island and Parry Sound goes in 5 weeks on August 22nd 23rd and 25th .                                    3. The 28th Annual Lions Club World Senior Men’s Fastball tournament this year being played in Sudbury and more precisely Azilda (Rick McDonald Memorial Sports Complex) is for 6 weeks from now on the Labor Day Weekend of August 29th , 30th and 31st with the deadline set at Friday August the 15th The entry fee is set at $500 .
