Alvinston Indians in Glencoe
July 29, 2014
Glencoe, ON
INDIANS WIN ON ROADÂ
The Indians were on the road in Glencoe on Monday evening, to face the Astros. The night wasn't necessarily a stellar evening for ball, with the wind playing havoc, and coats worn by both players and fans.
Â
That however didn't stop Indians cleanup hitter Aaron Stocking, as he hammered a homerun for Alvinston in the top of the second inning, for a 1-0 lead.Â
Â
In the bottom of the third, Glencoe would piece together 2 runs, when Indians starting pitcher Crawford allowed four walks. The second Glencoe run scored on a sly running play, when Astros shortstop Rowan Lam stole home after a pitch, and put the Astros in front.
Â
Alvinston was quick to square matters in the top of the fourth, when catcher Jamie Shields doubled, advanced to third via a wild pitch, and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Jeff Lyons. In the sixth inning, Alvinston exploded for five more runs, to take a commanding 7-2 lead, and they added one more run in the seventh, for what would end up being an 8-2 Indians win. Cole Pavey drove in two runs on an RBI single, while Bryan Johnson, Stocking, and Tyler Huff drove in the other runs in the Indians five-run sixth inning. In the seventh, a walk by Lyons, and a single by Stocking put runners on first and third, and Brad Cooper hit a sacrifice fly to plate Lyons for the eighth and final run.Â
Â
Kyle Crawford was the winning pitcher for Alvinston, tossing all seven innings, and allowing 1 hit and 5 walks, while fanning 10 Glencoe batters. Lilley suffered the loss for Glencoe.Â
Â
Next up for Alvinston and their 21-1 record, is another road game on Tuesday evening in Springfield. Game time is 8:30pm
