New men's Fastball League in Sooke BC
Sooke has been without a fastball league in its town since the mid 80's . Andrew Medwedrich changed all that this year . Medwedrich is the main driver behind this new four team league . The Sooke Logger and former Vancouver GreySox player decided its time to stop driving into Victoria (25miles away) to play week night ball . Medwedrich along with Jared Cooper , Jess Grieve, Adam Schnarr and Joel Banner found four businesses willing to sponsor the teams and formed the Sooke Men's League . They put together a list of player that quit playing over the years along with other Sooke players who had been traveling into Victoria to play to form the four team league . The five of them sat down and split the teams up as evenly as possible keeping in mind friends wanting to play together . They also made sure all teams had fairly equal pitching , after four games played by each team the biggest run difference in a game has been two runs . The talent varies with open players like Andrew and Nick Medwedrich Scott Lieph , Adam Schnarr , Brian Banner, Kyle Cowick , Ben Edgington and Jess Grieve to guys who haven't played for a dozen years . The local fans in Sooke have supported the league with between 60 to 80 fans out each night to watch the action . Who knows if the league will grow over the next few years but what it does show is there's sixty guys out playing fastpitch and loving it .
